A Worth-While Book

This German-language reader is ideal for students of postmodern literature. Staying true to current literary drifts and inclinations, this reader focuses upon the relative everyday experiences as well as the nuances that help to establish and shape a unique perspective on many of today's German-language writers and their works.

Great!

This is a great book for the German language student. It has various stories (including a modern day version of Little Red Riding Hood) which are excellent, accompanied by a small glossary of vocabulary terms, and grammar lessons. After each story, there are also some questions that the student can answer, to be sure of a complete understanding of what was just read. There is also a cassette that is made to accompany this book (which unfortunately I don't have, so I can't rate it) and some of the stories are strictly on this cassette and can't be found in the book. There are questions and vocabulary terms that correspond to these listening exercises which are in this book as well. I really enjoy this book and I believe other German students will as well.

Good book, with some drawbacks

This book is certainly not for beginners, it is very advanced. I use this in my 3rd year German class (I am a German professor and native speaker), and it is *a little* difficult for them.

Here are the reasons I like this book:

1. It is almost 100% in German. The only English in the book is the translations in the glossary.
2. This book uses text in real German literature.
3. It challenges the students.

However, this comes with some drawbacks. If the students aren't at the appropriate level, they will fall behind quickly. The difficulty of the text can also discourage students if they aren't advanced enough to understand it. Also, because this includes much real-life German literature, some of the expressions are outdated; would never be used in conversation in German speaking areas.

Luckily there are *many* chapters in the book, and you (if you are teaching a class) could skip some of the stories that might provide little benefit or too great of a challenge!

Good story line, flaky details

I liked this novel. The story line was interesting. Unfortunately, the author needed to spend more time doing research, a lot if the details had me saying, "Come on seriously?" Throughout the novel there were:
Blood transfusions in an ambulance, a 23 year being taken from a hospital against her will so easily, the lack of existence is sexual harassment laws in the work force(His dad is a lawyer, a good one it sounds and he can't help him?), isn't there a rule about professor/student relations? The list goes on.
Their love is sweet and I did finish it all. This author has a lot of talent, but she needs to develop her skills further.

The story was ok, but the writing was not great. Too many times were statement repeated, words being said triple times in a row. Too much of the character's thoughts. Actually found myself skipping parts to get to what was happening. Way too expensive for this book.

Scared for Scotty

Fair warning - you need to be strong at the start of this book - it is harrowing.

So we pick up straight from book 1 and we hit the ground running and taken on a fast paced race for Nick to save Scotty from a simply awful situation that you will simply need to be strong like Scotty to read and get through. I admit I was simply heart broken that she was back in hell again and Mr Lucas is one crazy and sick man. Look it was hard to read but you also knew that Nick was on his way and he would simply be Saving Scotty.

We see Scotty start to repair again with Nick and ultimately at the end is she strong enough to take the next step, can she totally trust Nick, is Portia going to be back in book 3, what else is going to be thrown at Scotty and will she deal with Mr Lucas finally to feel totally safe again.

I want Scotty to find love, happiness, safety and security and yes I will be picking up book 3 to continue this journey, my heart needs to know Scotty is going to be okay.

Apache Spark GraphX API combines the advantages of both data-parallel and graph-parallel systems by efficiently expressing graph computation within the Spark data-parallel framework.

Rindra Ramamonjison

Rindra Ramamonjison is a fourth year PhD student of electrical engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. He received his master's degree from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He has played various roles in many engineering companies, within telecom and finance industries. His primary research interests are machine learning, optimization, graph processing, and statistical signal processing. Rindra is also the co-organizer of the Vancouver Spark Meetup.

This book is easy to read with a promise to provide step by ...

This book is easy to read with a promise to provide step by step procedures to learn Apache Spark Graph Processing. To the most extent, Mr. Rindra Ramamonjison fulfills the promise. There are several errors in the book as such reader gets confused and can not be followed through the text. For example, spark-1.4.1-bin-hadoop2.6.tgz does not have the directories: core, graphx, mllib, sql, and streaming in SPARKHOME. Also, in the directory data, there are no files such as people.csv and links.csv.

Apart from the above superficial errors, the book met my expectation to learn Graph Processing.

Stellar Introduction to the Eastern Mind-Set

Bresnan's Awakening is an excellent introduction to the Eastern religions and philosophies of Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, Taoism, and Confucianism. The text is very readable, and Bresnan often tries to correlate appropriate Eastern doctrines with similar Judeo-Christian themes in order to enhance the reader's understanding.
Instead of focusing on external and exoteric religious themes, such as rituals, traditions, and the like, Bresnan uses a more theosophical approach which brings to light the ideas that encompass Eastern religions and ideologies. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book for anyone who has a budding interest in Eastern thought but has a theological IQ that does not extend east of the Arabian peninsula.

Very useful.

I used this as a substitute for the 4th edition, and it works just fine. The only issue I had was trying to match up the questions that are in the 3rd edition with the 4th edition at the end of every chapter. The best way I managed to do this was go to coursesmart and do a free trial of the 4th edition, and highlight all the questions in the 3rd edition that match up to the 4th edition. I'd say about 97% of all the questions are exactly the same, but some questions are actually shorter in the 4th edition than in the 3rd. Overall, I recommend this to students who are looking to save. The information is exactly the same in the 3rd as in the 4th.

This book opened my eyes in a lot of ways to the core of Eastern Philosophy. This book gives the clearest and best explanations of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Chinese thought that I have read. I highly recommend this book to everyone who would like to get an introduction into Eastern thought.
