simply brilliant

This magnificent publication is crammed from the outset with pearls which you can take straight to the operatory and put into practice, it demonstrates in great detail, born of clinical experience, the why and wherefore of how a clinician might approach a large variety of cases, and is a truely interdisciplinary tome, which renders it more valuable than any standalone title.
You will return to it again and again for guidance and it is packed with information. You will hardly need another book for a long time.

Among hundreds of books I read, Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning by Michael Cohen is by far my favorite. The world's most prominent clinicians candidly share their perspectives on how they would approach challenging clinical cases that require comprehensive/interdisciplinary treatment. I loved the section about relationships as it is more often ...

Even though I'm kind of biased on the author's work from reading Chicken Noodle Soup for the Soul in many of its incarnations this little book was different.I found it was more of a sectional stand-alone on just about any category you want to find the motivation to passionately ask about. I loved the section about relationships as it is more often than not a sore point for men like myself who try to find the"right" words in a personal situation.There are other areas I also plan to read and incorporate in the language of everyday life.if you want a "hokey" tome about meaning or a get rich quick fix steer away.If you want honest insight put it in your Amazon cart now!

Ask and Ye Shall Receive...

The writing and the approach in the book are not earth shattering. In fact, I wish there was a little more meat or pizzaz in the content. So, why the recommendation? Simple - the content at its core is incredibly powerful - and we all need the reminder. Our gentieel approach to communications and emotional interaction has left us forgetting to ASK for things. We expect the world to be mind readers, and get upset, frustrated or depressed when we don't get what we want. Of course, since we never actually ASKED for what we wanted, we rely on guesswork and luck to achieve our dreams and goals.

The genie in the lamp could grant wishes, but those wishes needed to be spoken by Aladdin. Similarly, we are all in a position to achieve our goals and dreams, but they must be spoken. Even within ourselves, we cannot harness our own power of desire and subconscious until we solidify the desire by asking for it.

An absolute must read - even if the writing style is a bit flat - the content is NOT.

The book just has a lot of basic information about the law of attraction, nothing you can't find for free on the internet. I wanted to like this book, but it was the same information I had read and heard so many other places.

Schiller, raised in a loving, affluent family in a New York City suburb, was 17 when she first heard the "voices" that would take over her life. Willing herself to appear normal, she resisted the brutally disparaging voices that urged her towards violence and suicide, and she succeeded in graduating from college. But early in 1982, at age 23 and after a suicide attempt, she was persuaded by her parents to admit herself to a mental hospital. For the next seven years, Schiller's auditory hallucinations worsened, and she repeatedly attempted suicide. Diagnosed with schizo-affective disorder, she underwent shock therapy and was treated with antipsychotic drugs. As the symptoms of her disease waxed and waned, Schiller was in and out of hospitals and treatment programs; her weight soared and she became dependent on cocaine. Entering a program at New York Hospital, she suggested to her therapist that she try a new drug, clozapine, which gradually helped her to cope with her illness. Schiller now works at a halfway house. With Wall Street Journal reporter Bennett, she presents her stunning story of courage, persistence and hope.

When Schiller was 17, her life was taken over by "voices" that she heard as clearly as she would hear a telephone or a doorbell. The voices changed her life from the ideal American Dream experience to the desolation and despair of a long-term mental ward. While the voices urged her to self-destruct, Schiller courageously fought her disease, which was later diagnosed as a schizo-affective disorder. A last chance drug treatment, intensive therapy, and her own strong will to live resulted in Schiller's triumph over mental illness. The story, told by her mother, father, roommate, and by Lori herself, is narrated by Mary Beth Hurt with passion and compassion. Recommended.

Everyone should read this book.

Excellent book. It took me right into the mind of a schizophrenic and those who were affected by her disease. I was anxious to read this as I am an RN and work in an inpatient psychiatric unit. We have a lot of schizophrenics and it helped me to understand what they go through every day. How devastating.

This book was so sad but so amazing! I couldn't imagine ever having to live that kind of life. I work at a facility for mental illness and my niece has this illness also and it helps to understand better.

I am in love with a man who has paronoid schizophrenia and was not understanding alot of things he did but amazingly so she is almost exactly like him...I am feeling such a need to thank all the people who put this book together and especially Lori and her courage to finally trust and go through so much to get better. I wish I could talk to her as I want to know what I can do to help him. He has put us on timeout and it has been 10 months as he said my life was in danger. I found this book so much of a help I could not put it down and I hope to tell you that my man has gotten better and has love . He would say I am not allowed to have love but he already does.... Thanks so much fantastic book!

Progressively From Great to Just Acceptable

When I first started to read this book, I became incredibly excited. I have parsed through a number of books on Kalman Filtering and have found that almost all of them are framed in such excessively abstract mathematical terms that the time invested was in fact wasted. The start of the book is incredibly reader friendly; statistical concepts are introduced from very simple concepts. The text then progresses to more difficult subjects like random signals and does a reasonably good job at delivering understanding. In fact, this book has one of the better discussions of statistical signal processing that I have ever seen. This largely stems from a very large number of worked examples that are of great assistance.

As the difficulty of the subject matter increases, the quality of the pedagogy decreases. The treatment of Kalman Filtering is reasonable but becomes increasingly abstract. I found myself relying heavily on the little intuition I had gained from reading other terribly written books in the field. As such, I must caution potential readers that this book is not a good introductory book. Zarchan and Musoff is the place to start in my view; once you have developed an understanding of Kalman Filtering from this perspective, Brown/Hwang will broach the more difficult aspects of kalman filtering in the context of statistical signal processing.

The need for a pedagogical text that deals with more complex considerations of kalman filtering remains.

A good treatment of the topic, but be cautious of implementation

This book is a very good treatment of Kalman filtering, both for those new to the concept, as well as those looking for a deeper explanation of approaches to common practical problems including:

data lags
suboptimal modeling
computational load
sequential measurement handling

There is a section with a competent handling of a GPS standalone filter, however, the section on GPS+INS integration seems to cut many corners leaving much to be desired. For more information on sensor fusion in this specific field I recommend
1) Principles of GNSS, Inertial, and Multi-Sensor Integrated Navigation Systems by Groves as a primary reference.
2) Aided Navigation by Jay A. Farrell as a secondary reference since it has a better treatment of coordinate frames and quaternion representations.

This book is great for an introduction to the probabilistic and stochastic pre-requisites for Kalman Filtering including the fundamental theoretical derivations and analysis of Kalman Filters and some of its extensions. I would use this book as a first book on Kalman Filtering along with Gelb's, Applied Optimal Estimation, in order to learn the fundamentals, followed by more advanced books depending upon the applications such as GNC,INS,GPS, GNSS, Radar, Finance, Econometrics, etc.

An Incredible Story of Hope, Heroism and Endurance

When I was a young boy I read the Diary of Ann Frank and, much like other boys, did not really enjoy it. As an adult man I prefer technical reading material. So, I was not enthusiastic when the author, my mother-in-law Mandy Evans, asked me to read her book, and I did so only out of a sense of filial obligation. I was very much surprised by what I read. You will be, too.
In this her first book, Mandy has masterfully captured the sights, sounds, and emotions of her experiences as a 7-year old "enemy of the state" as she was shuffled from one hiding place to another in a seemingly endless swirl of intrigue and ever-present danger. Her story is told with simple narration and engaging dialog between the real people who risked their lives in a complex series of schemes to save Mandy and her family.
Moving from house to house, assuming a new identity with each "family," sometimes enjoying a lengthy stay in relative safety, at other times escaping Nazi pursuers by mere seconds, Mandy�s true story reveals the paradoxical depravity and heroism within human nature. A friendly neighborhood cop-on-the-beat who becomes a vicious anti-Semitic Nazi-sympathizer literally over night, a man who finds it easier to turn his Jewish wife into the Nazi occupiers rather than divorce her, a pretty young woman who takes her "daughter" to see her grandmother while concealing Dutch Resistance handguns in her travel bag, and the brazenly canny courage of a young Dutchman in the Resistance who saves countless lives only to lose his own life in a freak accident with an American truck shortly after Dutch liberation are all portrayed with affecting and remarkable detail. And in the midst of it all, Mandy finds safety, seclusion and a hero on a houseboat aptly named "The Swan".
In addition to the story of her own struggle to survive, Mandy tells the wider story of her family: a father whose pre-war fame as "Der Schwaze Teufel" (the Black Devil) on Germany�s championship soccer team buys him one night of delay in which to save his family; a mother who reunites with her lice-ridden son by the innocent use of a kerchief; a brother whose courage and ingenuity engineer an escape from a train bound for Auschwitz that saves himself and his mother; and two sisters, one older and one younger, each of whom also must hide and deal with the realities of being hunted.
And, in the final unexpected twist to this remarkable tale, Mandy�s story ends in the Oval Office as she introduces an elderly Dutch woman to the President of the United States, Ronald Reagan.
I highly recommend this book, not because Mandy is my mother-in-law but because this story will leave you with the sure conviction that in the darkest of hours hope can inspire unyielding endurance, that ordinary human beings can rise to unthought-of heights of heroism, that in the face of worldwide destruction miracles still do happen, and that little girls with ribbons in their hair can defeat history�s worst monsters.
"Lest We Forget" is a book you will read and remember.

Incredible story. I had the privilege of meeting the author. She is incredible and gladly answered all of my questions. If you are interested in this subject than I highly recommend this book. If this is your first book on the subject then this is the best one to start with.

Awesome expansion to the Gears universe.

The kilo squad survivor's log is a neat collection of journal entries written by Damon Baird of Kilo squad during the events that take place during the game Gears of War Judgment. The Survivors log also contains drawings, post cards, aptitude tests of the members of kilo squad, and even the Cole Train's rookie card! These little extras seem to have been shipped right out of the gears universe. The book is meant to look and feel like Baird's Field notebook and the blood and coffee stains on some of the pages really makes it seem believable. Most of the entries are Baird writing to his parents postmortem but as sad as that may seem the entries are full of Baird's odd since of humor and are really fun to read. Baird covers everything from his first few weeks enlisted, basic training, the first time he met Cole, Sofia, and Paduk, the battle of Halvo Bay and of coarse the trial of Kilo squad. I always thought that of all the characters in Gears of War, Baird was the one we knew the least about. The Kilo squad Survivor's Log is a really neat look at Baird's story and adds a lot to Gears of War judgment..

Still reading the book but so far its great. This is definatly set up to feel like a survivors log. As there are clips that are "taped" into the book like you would expect from a diary/journal. GOW is awesome!!
