A book that gives unified view of all major religions.

The author presents a visionary based histories of great initiates of maojor religions. The author emphasises that the initiates like Rama, Krishna, Moses, Jesus are real historical persons. His work includes Plato, Pythagoras also. The Krishna's case is interesting; it includes the Rasa leela and His Gita advice to Arjuna; but Kamsa is left unkilled by Krishna. The Rama's history is totally shaped by theory of aryan invasion of India. For Christians, the Jesus's history may be a disappointment since it does not make him unique in the way traditional christianity projects. His respect for Greek thought do tilt the balance of the work. His reasons to exclude Buddha are not convincing. Buddha is perfect link between Krishna and Plato. One point to be noted is that the book was written in 1817.

This book is a masterpiece of 19th century esoteric writing, and well worth reading...deeply.

Whether one believes in this sort of thing or not is irrelevant. The primary focus here is on a heartfelt search for meaning in the human existence, and the joy found in the ancient spiritual writings that are connected by a thread of enlightenment, a point of view commonly held by students of Esoteric systems.

How much of the descriptions of the spiritual lives mentioned in this work comes from research and how much comes from the voice of the author's close friend and contributor, a seer, isn't stated, but again, that's not critical to the point. Seers answer to no man or woman, and readers must decide for themselves whether to lend credence to what they're reading, much of which is richly laden with underlying metaphorical complexity and esotericism .

The focus of this great visionary's writing represents a look at the battle of the soul versus the intellect, and the struggle between the the world of the spirit and the world of materialism in the 19th century, when the scientific community was seemingly laying waste to one tenet after another of traditional religious beliefs.

This work is a call to arms for the metaphysical belief system, a testament that there is, in fact, a world beyond substance that incorporates the spiritual world, a world that surrounds us yet remains hidden, and that this is a world we may freely tap into if we search for meaning in the traditional places of its domain and show the correct amount of reverence and discipline needed to connect with it.

These searches, if one is inclined to them, are always well-worth the time for believers, and a total waste of time for the dubious.

For those truly interested in spirituality as a all-inclusive universal concept this is a magnificent work. To traditional Christians it is a work of heresy. To the materialist it is sheer nonsense.

For those who were truly intended as readers this is a vibrant and beautifully written and very reverent work that proclaims the continuity of the search for, and proudly expresses the true mission of the soul and the spirit, and the real, hidden, meaning to our existence.

A Theosophical Treatise

From the perspective of each of the religions whose founders are discussed, this book will seem to be very inaccurate, even offending. The reader should understand that this book is not religion or theology, it is theosophy.
Not that I am an expert in this area, but it seems to me that this book is an accurate representation of the beliefs of theosophists. The origin of the races, the meaning and significance of religious symbolism, the advent of individuals who could bring spiritual truth to mankind by a mystical process are all the tennents of theosophy.
If you are an historian, this book can provide you an interesting view of theosophical beliefs, at least around the turn of the 20th century. Likewise if you are a theologian. Schure's descriptions of the life and process of the great persons he covers is worth reviewing because they were mystical persons or at minimum practiced mystical religions.

Another Manwhore gets Virgin Double Standard, but I liked it

I really didn't think I would like this book as Bullying is really overdone by YA authors and I didn't think I could handle another one. But this isn't anything like I was expecting; it was a love story and I really enjoyed it. If you like Katie McGarry's style ( Pushing the Limits (Harlequin Teen)) and Simone Elkeles's (Perfect Chemistry), then you will probably like this one.

Bully starts out exciting as we see Tatum and her best friend K.C. literally racing around town and going to a party at night, hoping not to see Jared and Madoc, two boys who enjoy embarrassing Tate. Jared has deposited Tate's keys in the pool and challenges her to retrieve them. She is so glad that she is spending the next year in France to get away from Jared and his constant sneer at her. She is baffled why they are no longer friends, as all she knows is that he came back from visiting his dad for the first time on his fourteenth summer and has treated her like crap ever since. He spreads rumors about her that keep all the boys from asking her out and never fails to find away to embarrass or intimidate her. Her loyal friend K.C. and K.C.'s boyfriend Liam have been her only steadfast friends.

But now she is back for her senior year and is determined to not let the bad-boy, man-whore ruins it for her. The fact that they are neighbors and he has LOUD parties most Friday nights, makes this hard. Also, her undeniable attraction to him. Then her best friend starts lying to her and making friends with Jared and Jared steals some kisses from Tate, totally confusing her and her body.

Why did he change? Why is he mean to her and also seeming not to be able to keep his hands off of her? Why does Madoc, Jared's best friend, all of a sudden want to date her? Why does her best friend think she is wrong to pay Jared back for his meanness? Would she ever be able to forgive him for the way he has treated her all these years?

This is a good high school type romance with descriptive sex scenes and some frustrating behavior that very well could have applied to teenagers. While I HATE the double standard of Tate being the chaste virgin and Jared the VERY experienced man-whore, the writing is very well done and keeps you engrossed in the story. This will take your emotions on a rollercoaster of anger, resentment, shock, wariness, sympathy, and a cautious forgiveness. I will be reading the next in the series merely because I think Penelope Douglas has real talent as a YA/NA writer. Personally, I hope Book 2 will be about Jaxon.

This Bully crossed too many lines for me...

Jared and Tate are neighbors.

And growing up they were best friends and pretty much inseparable. Through the loss of her mother to Jared's mothers battle with drinking they supported and loved each other. And then the summer before their freshman year, Jared went to stay with his father, and the Jared that came back was different. He was unbelievably mean and cruel to Tate and seemed to make it his life's mission for the next two years to taunt and torment her. He hated her.

And then Tate left to study abroad in Paris for a year, and when she returns she is determined that she is not going to let her former best friend turned personal torturer ruin her life any longer.
And there are a few shining moments of Tate standing up for herself and taking a stand (one brilliantly involving her middle finger and a "tear" was especially full of win)
While Jared goes back and forth between cutting her down and eye-boinking her.

Clearly, this is the classic "I hate you because I want you" scenario going on.

I know that to some the fact that Jared secretly pines for her and actually loves her under all that cruelty and hatred, and eventually apologies and explains makes up for all of it.
Yeahhh. Not so much for me. The vitrol that he continues to spew at her, his intimidating behavior and the lengths he goes to hurt her even after she's been gone for a year hint toward a really deep ugliness I'm not so fond of.

This book could have been really good, even great if the author hadn't chosen for Jared to continue the abuse and hateful behavior after Tate returned. If the time apart had dulled the sharp edges of his anger and he just didnt have the heart to be so cruel anymore. It would have made some sort of sense for me. But instead his epiphany moment comes too late during a dramatic monologue in class.
It's frustrating for me because the chemistry between Jared and Tate is smoking hot. And some of Tate's memories of their childhood friendship have real emotional resonance.

This could have been a resonating love story about the hidden pain that is often behind bullying, about atonement, forgiveness and the healing power of love.
Instead it only ends up being about a hot guy who torments a pretty girl who used to be his best friend until he decides not too anymore. With a particularly dreadful supporting cast of morally questionable characters, hot cars, and a video that should have resulted in charges being pressed.

Distasteful

Sigh. Another book about an abusive guy and his delusional love interest, masquerading as a YA romance. No, just no. The plot is fairly simple. A mean, abusive, promiscuous young man harasses and intimidates a young woman he secretly loves. This young woman is treated like trash by the jerk and his friends, but is still secretly attracted to him. Why? Because they were friends as little kids! Because he has Mommy/Daddy issues so that absolutely justifies his rotten behavior. Because she can save him from himself! And lest we point out that the female character, Tate, is as ridiculous and Mary-Sueish as Bella Swan and Anastasia Fifty Shades of Gray girl, this author has made Tate "different" because Tate points her middle finger and breaks guys' noses and knees them in the crotch. Yeah, because a violent woman is better than a doormat of a woman.

This book has no redeeming characters. The main character, Tatum Brandt, is supposed to be this smart, pretty girl, who has traveled to France, is athletic and also good in school. Yet, she can't seem to fight her attraction for a guy who is a party-throwing, fast car loving, mean drunk. His hot looks are enough to make what should be a smart young woman overlook his disgusting, malevolent personality. Why would a smart girl like Tate fall for Jared? A smart girl in real life would steer clear of a jerk like him, but no...this intelligent young woman can't fight her physical attraction for him, her lust makes all her sensibility go out the window. The male lead character, Jared, is so poorly written, it's almost comical. We have no clue what motivates him. All we know is that he's hot, he's mean, and he was abused. That's about it. I wish I could tell you more about him, but the author didn't think we needed to know more about Jared beyond his good looks and his macho man attitude. The supporting characters are just as despicable. A best friend, K.C., who is willing to date Jared, despite the fact that he has mistreated Tate. All of the males in the book, and I mean ALL, are jerks who like to mishandle girls, talk nastily to them, ignore their wishes etc. The few female characters are described as sluts ( Piper, Derek Roman's girl, etc). And the adults are non existent. Dad is off overseas, Mom is dead, Grandma pops in for a few paragraphs, cooks a nice meal, gives some grandmotherly advice then disappears, and Jared's parents are abusive.

Notable scenes in this book? An incident where Tate is being pawed by a guy so badly she ends up breaking his nose. An incident where Tate is changing in the locker room, and Jared barges in to intimidate her while all she has on is a towel. An incident where Tate is nearly raped by a guy, but is rescued by Jared, who beats the guy to a bloody pulp. An incident where Jared speeds down a dark road with his headlights off, endangering both their young lives, while Tate begs him to stop ( he ignores her). An incident where Jared flirts with Tate's best friend, K.C., just to hurt Tate's feelings. And it goes on and on...horrendous mistreatment and bullying that in the end is made right by love. I don't know what the author's definition of love is, but this isn't it. The relationship between Tate and Jared is a false standard of love, manhood and relationships.

Please, please, please don't allow your teen-aged daughters to read stuff like this. And if you do, please give them Pride and Prejudice to read afterward, a book that has a true gentleman for a hero, and a smart young woman for a heroine, and an actual redeeming love story. Then discuss how books like Bully are demeaning and sexist. Discuss how what Tate and Jared have are not how a healthy relationship should be evolve among young people. If older, experienced women want to read crap like this to fulfill their fantasies of dominant man/passive woman, fine. However, young impressionable teen-aged women should steer clear of books like this, unless they truly understand the dynamics of authors romanticizing abusive relationships.

Preface

This book is made primarily for design engineers and managers, and for test and design-for-test engineers and managers. It can also be used for students of digital design and test, as well. The purpose of this book is to introduce the basic concepts of test and design-for-test (DFT), and to then address the application of these concepts with an eye toward the trade-offs of the engineering budgets (silicon area, operating frequency target, power consumption, etc.), the business drivers, and the cost factors.

Currently, some very good test and DFT texts are available. However, many of them are from an academic focus. In my years of being part of the integrated circuit design community, I have had to train many IC designers and junior DFT engineers in test and design-for-test. I have discovered that corporate education is remarkably different from academic education. A design engineer on a project, who must learn and apply DFT techniques, is learning them while being responsible for 60+ hours of other design tasks per week and while meeting regular design deadlines and milestones. In this environment, learning the DFT tasks and techniques is difficult with a book that focuses on the "mathematical" or "theoretical" point of view. History has taught me that a direct "how to do it" text is more effective.

Another interesting aspect of the competitive corporate environment is that the design process may be "factory-ized." The overall design process for a chip or a portion of a chip is no longer the responsibility of the design engineer, but of teams of chip design functions. For example, the logic gate cells may be designed and characterized by one group (standard cell and library development), and the design may be modeled and synthesized by a different group (HDL design and synthesis), verified by yet another group (formal and simulation verification), and ultimately, mapped to a physical process by yet another group (floorplanning, place&route, and physical design). In this case, the teaching of DFT techniques must be spread out to the various organizations contributing to the overall design. A teaching description of a DFT technique, such as scan design, is not effective if it is not related to the tasks, scheduling, trade-offs, and the separations into the various organizational elements. Again, history and experience have taught me that an effective text here is one that relates the topic being addressed to the design methodology and design flow.

So direct experience in corporate technical training and teaching has led to the style and content of this "practical guide" on the test and Design-for-Test (DFT) topics of scan test, embedded memory test, and embedded core test. This text has been developed more along the lines of a "just what you need to know—and how to do it" guide that explains the topic, explains the trade-offs, and relates the topic to the design flow. My hope is that using this text will reduce the "learning curve" involved in the application of test and design-for-test techniques, and will result in designs that have a higher quality-reliability level and a lower cost-of-test.

A practical text on DFT and DFT techniques, based on the industry point of view, is needed right now for several reasons. First, the "cost of test" is beginning to dominate the recurring (per-part) cost involved in the manufacturing of the final silicon product for many of the consumer markets—parts with high volume and a low selling price. Second, shorter product lifetimes and increased time-to-market (TTM) and time-to-volume (TTV) pressures are forcing the need to have some form of structured, repeatable and automatable test features included in the device as part of the overall design methodology. Third, the move to reuse cores, and core-based design, as a reaction to shrinking process geometries and TTM pressures, is also forcing designed-in test features to become portable since design units may be distributed and reused in several different chip designs with completely different configurations. And finally, the shrinking process geometries also enable "system-on-a-chip" and ULSI (Ultra-Large Scale Integrated) designs with massive integration—more integration means more faults and more vectors—which leads to a test data management and cost-of-test problems.

Taken all together, these changes in parts of the semiconductor design industry are changing the way test and DFT are viewed, addressed, and implemented. Organizations that once ignored DFT are now being dragged kicking and screaming into modern age because of test cost, TTM, TTV, test data volume, and having to deal with the test features delivered with commercially available cores. Test is one of the three major components of recurring per-part cost involved with the manufacture and selling of digital semiconductor integrated circuits (with the cost of silicon die and the cost of packaging being the other two). As with every product, trade-offs are made to achieve a quality level and to fit within a target cost profile. I hope that this text will eliminate the view that understanding the cost-of-test and applying DFT during the design phase of a product is a "black art" for organizations and individuals that must address managing the cost factors of a chip design.

About the Author

He has been issued nine U.S. Patents and is an experienced trainer and conference presenter.

"Skip the high-brow theories" is right

While looking for a digital testing textbook that was more accessible to students than the Abramovici "Digital Systems Testing and Testable Design" text, I came across this one and thought it would be the perfect answer. When my copy arrived I was sorely disappointed.
If you need a book to introduce you to what the various testing techniques are, this book does a wonderful job! Its discussion will surely be useful to the typical test engineer. However, if you want to really understand HOW the design techniques work and how to optimize them, this book truly lives up to its claim of "Skip the high-brow theories and mathematical formulas" --- you will receive very little help in your endeavor.
This book's usefulness depends on what your need is. In one case it is great; in another it is poor.

Great topics but detail is missing

The topics covered in the book were great, but there was not enough detail present. The book is written for readers familiar with design, and sometimes assumes test knowledge as well. The text seemed to be repetative and full page, low detail diagrams were repeated quite frequently. I was disappointed that several pages were not devoted to the different SRAM test algorithms, and the author did not spend much time explaining JTAG design & test.

Pratical, easy to read, right to the point.

If the yellow DFT book is the blue print of circuit testing, then this book is the bolts and nuts. It outlines a good deal of state-of-art DFT problems in the industry, while staying away from rocket science (well, DFT science).
As a DFT engineer, I recommend this book for anyone who wants to know what's going on in the DFT industry.
One thing I found missing in this book is logic BIST. Maybe that means it's still not pratical to use logic BIST? :)

Like the original five-volume set, The Lancelot-Grail Reader is the work of a team of translators including General Editor Norris J. Lacy, Martha Asher, E. Jane Burns, Carleton E. Carroll, Carol J. Chase, William W. Kibler, Roberta L. Krueger, Rupert T. Pickens, and Samuel N. Rosenberg. This volume, edited for students, Arthurian scholars, and enthusiasts, also includes a concise introduction and suggestions for further reading.

The Whole Story (Abridged)

As a child, I grew to love Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur. But I also fond it frustrating. Why was the end of the story of Tristan and Palamedes missing? Why did the Roman War not seem to have existed after that book? What was the questing beast? Why were there two differing accounts of how the Fisher King was maimed?

I read comments, but the commentators seemed, to me, to be amazingly uninterested in such questions. They would explain that Malory alone had first made one book out of the many Arthurian books, but I sometimes wondered if they had even read this one book.

Of course, eventually I discovered the old French romances in the University Library, and taught myself to read Old French to some degree. And, I discovered why Malory was so good, but also discovered all the missing parts which Malory didn't put into his tale. I found out who Galahaut the High Prince was, discovered the story of Guinglain son of Gawain, and read the account in the Prose Tristan about Tristan and the Land of Servage, which was so much superior to Malory's poor efforts.

Best of all, was Oskar Sommer's Vulgate Arthurian Cycle, in 8 enormous bound volumes as thick as phone books, providing secret lore concerning Lancelot and his kin.

Then in 1196 the final volume of Norris J. Lacy's Lancelot-Graal appeared, the conclusion of a translation into modern English of seven of Sommer's eight volumes, plus a translation of the remnant of the Post-Vulgate, a modified cycle which now existed only in fragments, but which told such major Athurian events as the death of King Lot, the death of the Queen of Orkney, and the death of King Pellinore, the Christening of Sir Palamedes, and the final end of the Questing Beast.

Unfortunately this immense series of books was out of print for years, not because of demand, which if anything has increased, but because of unaccountable lack of interest by the publisher in either putting out another printing of the books themselves or assigning rights to an eager paperback company.

However, a selection of material from the Lacy Lancelot-Grail volumes is still in print, in The Lancelot-Grail reader. The selections are knitted together by short summaries of the missing parts, and there is more missed than presented.

That creates a delightful tension. One knows one is missing material. Most of the material dropped makes sense, though I do wish Lacy had kept the account of Mordred for the first time learning who is true father is. But this is very much a "good parts" book, as William Goldman described his Princess Bride. If you want to get the gist of most of the full Lancelot version of the Arthurian legend, and read the best of it, then this is the book.

The book ends with an appendix of some Post-Vulgate material, exactly that material which in my opinion is most important in the Post-Vulgate.

This book is amazing

To be honest, I haven't read this book yet, but when I received it I rapidly checked it in full, and my first impression was just "wow, this is exactly what I was looking for". Studying electrical engineering with interests in computer vision, I've been always interested in understand how the vision works from both a biological and a mathematical perspective. That's exactly what this book is. The first chapters introduce some biological aspects of how the vision and, more specifically, the eye works, but the next chapters it presents very interesting models of the vision that I'm sure they're going to be quite inspiring for my work in the future. I'm very thankful with my purchase, I'm enjoying it so much.

This book provides a comprehensive guide both to the techniques used to obtain radiographs of the horse, and to radiographic interpretation. The second edition has been significantlyenlarged to include new information and many additional illustrations. With over 480 superb annotated radiographs and more than 100 interpretive line diagrams, the book combines the best features of a high quality atlas with those of a detailed textbook.

It presents the normal radiographic anatomy of the immature and mature horse, with normal variations, incidental findings and details of significant abnormalities. About the Author
Jan Butler
Jan has specialized in equine radiography and has 30 years experience in this field. In 1975 she joined the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket where she gained considerable experience working with many internationally renewed veterinary surgeons. Since 1997 she has been working in private practice at the Willesley Equine Clinic in Gloucestershire.

Chris Colles
Chris Colles qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1971. After 3 years in mixed practice (where he obtained a Part I Diploma in Radiology) he joined the Animal Health Trust as a clinician in 1975. He was awarded a PhD for work on Navicular Disease in 1981, and has carried out research in many areas of Equine Orthopaedic and radiology, having a particular interest in the horse’s foot. In 1988 he returned to practice, where he is a senior partner in Avonvale Veterinary Group, specializing in equine orthopaedics. He is recognized by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a Specialist in Equine Orthopaedic Surgery. Chris was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Worshipful Company of Farriers in 2000 in recognition of his research into conditions of the foot, and involvement with farriery education.

Sue Dyson
After qualifying from the University of Cambridge in 1980, Sue worked for a year at New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania, and then spent a year in private practice in Pennsylvania. Sue then joined the Centre for Equine Studies of the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket, where she has specialized in lameness diagnosis and diagnostic imaging. Sue is recognized as a specialist in Equine Orthopaedics by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and holds the RCVS diploma in Equine Orthopaedics. She has published widely on lameness, radiography ultrasonography, nuclear scintigraphy and magnetic resonance imaging.

Svend Kold
Svend qualified in 1981 in Copenhagen. He then spent over 10 years at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, where he completed his thesis on femoro-tibial subchondral bone cysts. After a sabbatical year at Colorado State University he joined the Willesley Equine Clinic, Gloucestershire, where he is now a partner. He specializes in lameness and orthopaedic surgery and is recognized as a Specialist in Equine Orthopaedic Surgery by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. His time is spent mostly at the clinic seeing first opinion and referral cases. He published regularly on orthopaedic subjects.

Paul Poulos
Following graduation from the University of California at Davis in 1960, Paul founded a private practice. In 1972 he returned to Davis to specialize in radiology where he was awarded Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology. He moved to the Royal Veterinary College of Stockholm, Sweden and was awarded a Veterinary Medicine Doctorate (PhD) for his thesis on osteochondrosis in 1977. He was Associate Professor at Radiology at the University of Utrecht, and on return to the USA, was Professor of Radiology at University of Florida. From 1983, he was chairman of the Department of Radiology. In 1990 Paul left academe to establish his own consulting practice, Poulos Veterinary Imaging, based in Ukiah, California. He has published widely on osteochondrosis, navicular disease and diseases of the fetlock.

A MUST FOR EVERY EQUINE VETERINARIAN

I am a private Equine veterinarian whom has been actively involved in Equine practice since I graduated in 1986. I have gone through this book in various places as I have not been able to own one for some unknown reason and my first impression of it was it is a must for every Equine Veterinarian. It contains alot of valuble information.Now thanks to the Distance Learning Programme in Equine Surgery, conducted by the Post-Graduate Foundation, University of Sdyney under Dr.Nick Kannegieter, I was able to get this book as it comes highly recommended in this programme.
