About the Author
John Galsworthy was a Nobel-Prize (1932) winning English dramatist, novelist, and poet born to an upper-middle class family in Surrey, England. He attended Harrow and trained as a barrister at New College, Oxford. Although called to the bar in 1890, rather than practise law, Galsworthy travelled extensively and began to write.

It was as a playwright Galsworthy had his first success. His playslike his most famous work, the series of novels comprising The Forsyte Sagadealt primarily with class and the social issues of the day, and he was especially harsh on the class from which he himself came.

After: Tessa, una niña buena de pueblo pequeño conoce al "enigmático" Hardin, un galán con tatuajes, mala actitud y un "pasado de tormento", al emprender un nuevo camino tras comenzar su vida universitaria. Después de ires y venires, Tessa y Hardin comienzan una turbulenta relación que los pondrá a prueba.

La verdad no sé por donde comenzar.

Cuando un libro está bien redactado, bien editado, cuando siento que el escritor sabe lo que hace; incluso si no me gusta el libro como tal, siempre le doy tres estrellas, debido a que la percepción buena o mala de la trama es completamente subjetiva y va más allá de la literatura y la gramática, va hasta los gustos individuales de una persona, y solo porque un libro no me guste, no implica que sea malo. Bueno... este lo es.

No criticaré la trama. Hay miles, cientos de miles, infinidad de libros basados en el mismo tema, una y otra y otra vez. Niña buena, conoce niño malo, se enamoran, ella quiere cambiarlo, él no se deja hasta que si se deja (o ella se conforma) y vivieron felices por siempre.

Dejaré de lado lo tóxica que es la relación entre Tessa y Hardin y me enfocaré netamente en la parte literaria.

De un tiempo para acá, se ha perdido el arte de la prosa, se dejó a un lado todos y cada uno de los elementos que conforman un escrito literario, y se enfocó más en alcanzar público con palabras que no añaden nada a la historia, mal utilizadas y situaciones absurdas. Eso dio como resultado que se publicara este libro. La verdad, me gustaría saber si este libro pasó por un editor, debido a que encuentro errores gramáticos que son imperdonables, signos de puntuación mal utilizados, signos de puntuación faltantes, palabras que no cuadran en la prosa y se sienten extremadamente forzadas y, como ya es costumbre, la redundancia.
La descripción de personajes tiende a ser muy superficial y muchos de los eventos son bastante predecibles.

Tessa tiene problemas de codependencia y una necesidad de aceptación por los demás bastante molesta para un "personaje principal". Por otro lado, mi mayor problema con Hardin, es que si bien no es un Marty-Stu, es aterrador lo predecible y superficial que su personaje es, especialmente cuando no es la intención de la autora. Intenta darle una profundidad y complejidad, y lo que termina haciendo es quitarle credibilidad y patrones de conducta. Si tienes que hacer que tu personaje no sea consistente consigo mismo para darle "profundidad", hay algo malo con tu personaje.

Honestamente, no puedo decir más sin meterme directamente en la trama, y dije que no lo haría. Terminé el libro porque considero un pecado empezar uno y abandonarlo, pero juro que estuve a punto de ceder.

No me gusto para nada. Creo que en wattpad hay historias que tienen mejor trama y originalidad y se merecen estar en papel. After es una historia con una trama que es mas de lo mismo. Ya las novelas eróticas aburren y mas si la trama no esta del todo desarrollada.

This book could be titled " Suppressed American History of the 20th Century." Perloff traces the history of the American Establishment, through its political arm, the Council on Foreign Relations. The aims of the CFR and the Establishment are clear - a World Government, removal of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. What is more frightening is the Establishment control of the media and education. Please read this book! You will never watch the news the same way again.

Just the Facts

After reading this book, all I can say is "Wow". After studying history for over 30 years as a former non-believer in conspiracy theories, I can state that this book has finally put all the pieces together. If you want to know what has been occuring behind the scenes in US domestic and foreign policy in the past 90 years, then you need to read this book. Although the book was written in 1988 (with an eye-opening 2002 up-to-date list of Council of Foreign Affairs members), after reading this book you can clearly make sense of what has happened in US and world geopolitics from 1988 through the present. Events subsequent to 1988 have certainly made this book nothing short of prophetic. That said, I would very much like to see an updated edition of this book, because events over the past 14 years have played out largely according to the Establishment's goals and desires.
This books makes sense of "Republican", "Democrat", "anti-Communist", "conservative", and "liberal" labels ascribed to Presidents and other public figures by the Establishment, and how these labels are usually used by the Estalishment to mislead the sheeple masses. I'm amazed that the masses in the US have been used as moronic pawns all these years, regardless of which party has been in power. How did Eisenhower come to power? How did Nixon come to power? Was Jimmy Carter just the simple peanut farmer--Washington outsider? Was FDR just an ordinary man who looked out for the little guy? Did Reagan's actions match up with his verbiage? This book gives you those answers.
This books sticks to facts--do not expect UFO alien abduction theories and the like in this book. Every fact is footnoted, and the most damning evidence comes straight from quotes from the key players themselves--no interpretation needed. All evidence is given in a straight-forward, non-hysterical, just-the-facts manner.
This book is a must-read.

An imperative reading for the courageous mind !

Political socialization has taught us obedience and trust in authority figures. Questioning these authorities can get you labeled as unpatriotic or as a conspiracy lunatic. By scaring people and/or by belittling them the truth gets buried.
The Council on Foreign Relations has been and continues to be one of the elite's major vehicle that creates and dictates domestic and foreign policies. Perloff's book is not about a conspiracy theory, it is about a fact of life that might have started as a conspiracy, but no longer is. Everything is in the the open. The elites have legitimized their power by co-opting the bankers, the politicians, the media moguls, the corporate CEOs, the Ivy league school presidents, and even many of the world selected leaders. One world order and globalization have always been the CFR primary agenda. Creation of conflict in the world is the key policy toward achieving this goal; because out of conflict comes change. If you manipulate and create an artificial struggle, you will get the change you desire. The end justifies the means! Divide and conquer!
These are not just cliches or futile old sayings, they are in fact policies of the CFR. The bottom line, is that the continous creation of well designed conflicts will lead to division of nations and people, and make them more apt to join the global community. That is the key strategy for a successful globalization.
Perloff's book is a brilliant expose of the truth. It is well documented and well written. It is a highly recommended reading for the curious mind !!

Ornamental Pattern for the Web, too!

The first edition of this book was published in 1903. This would seem to place it as a popular work for the ornamental design of the previous decade (Victorian, etc). The second edition of 1933 was made over by an author named Amor Fenn who rearranged some chapters and added more about borders. The basic concepts of pattern design (i.e. wallpaper, rugs, etc.) are explained in that endearing early 20th century patter that turned everything around so they could say 5 words in 20; pre-entertainment-overload days! I took these drafting examples right into Photoshop and Illustrator and created several rough MacIntosh like Victorian wallpapers in a short time... copy/paste, flip, and snap-to made this an easy trial. Taking the same trials and thinking 100 years into the future made web background pattern construction a breeze. Cool. ...and everything in between, this could get fun. An excellent reference shelf item

One of the BEST reference books I have ever read...

It is very rare that anything inspires me to gush. But I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Yes, the examples in the book (originally published in 1903) are in black and white - irrelevant. What is being taught here is not color theory but pattern construction. Learn to walk first, skipping comes later.

Read with an open mind, this book will give anyone a solid foundation on which to build patterns. It is an invaluble resource to web designers, artists, and crafters of all kinds.

I cannot remember the last time I took a class or read a how-to book where the lesson plan was laid out so logically and compellingly, each chapter building on what was already learned.

And while the author's old fashioned prose takes a little getting used to, it is by no means dry or boring. Mr. Day, and his editor, Mr. Fenn, are both brilliant, opinionated, and enthusiastic about the subject of pattern - the writing of this book makes that clear even 100+ years after it was originally published. There are also excellent teachers, and if there is a Great Hereafter, I hope someday I'm able to thank them.

I originally rented this book from my local library. Within a few chapters, I realized it was a keeper and I had to have it for my own.

LOVE this book

For anyone interested in the art of repeat patterns, this book is fantastic. Filled with lots of good old fashioned advice and methods, it shows a whole bunch of ways to build repeating blocks that you can then manipulate and decorate to your own ends. Techniques are easily adapted to use in a vector graphics program too, so you can follow instructions with a ruler and pencil or with your computer.

International Master Timothy Taylor is an experienced tournament player who has enjoyed several notable successes, including winning the US Open. My favorite Against white playing d4 then c4.

Have any of those guys commenting ever TRIED the Budapest?
I beg to differ. I love it! I was always playing behind and unsure when white went into the Queen's pawn opening and Indian with c4. They were far ahead in experience and I was always unsure how to proceed. Not now - not with the Budapest. It puts THEM in unsure territory.
And you will see them SWEAT. I was about a 1600 player and tried it out OTB against a 1800-1900 player. Seems he'd never seen it and I could see how he was in unsure waters. This was after I studied the Budapest for about a week. At one point, about 12 moves in, he arrogantly said "I'm actually having to think here."
I kept him at bay well into the middle game and finally his superior skills overtook me but I enjoyed every minute of watching him squirm, as he knew I was way less rated than him. (Actually, my USCF was around 1200 at the time, but had practiced a lot and improved before playing another tournament) The guy would look up at me many times, as if to say, "I think you're sandbagging with your 1200 rating story."
Anyway, if someone keeps playing d4, c4 against you, this is the Defense to play. It's kind of like Alekhine's Opening, also by Taylor, it's a great one to know to add to your reportoire and throw them off.
Another great book by Taylor, the Budapest Gambit. You can't go wrong with his books.

An opening to get the opponent out of the comfort zone

The Budapest Gambit has a surprise effect as it gets the opponent out of the comfort zone from the second move on. As it is full with traps, White has to be careful in its response. Sadly, the book does not focus on the traps that appear after inaccurate play instead it focuses on serious and correct responses. I would recommend to search for opening traps in the Budapest Gambit to complement the excellent research by T. Taylor. I have had many victories with the Budapest Gambit, particularly in 5 min Internet Blitz matches.

Very pleased!

Very pleased! Have been playing the Budapest for three years but there were a couple of areas I had problems with.
The book covers them well and I am now confident I can cope with all Whites moves.
One example is:The Reti variation to the Alekhine Attack is well covered and very useful.
A minor omission is the variation: 1 d4 Nf6 2 c4 e5 3 de5 Ng4 4 e6. However this is rarely played by White.
