It is a Treasure

I absolutely loved Highland Treasure by Mary McCall. It is an amazing book, with tons of LOL moments and few crying my heart out passages. This is more than just a Highland romance. It's a story of vengeance and redemption.

Let's talk about our H and h....

Hope, all I can say is wow! She was bloody awesome. She risked her life to save a boy she didn't know and bring a clan that hated her, their much needed Justice. She had a miserable life. A sadistically abusive father, total isolation, and lack of real home all molded Hope into a warrior woman. She also had a little gift, but I will let you discover what it is on your own.

Leonce is an awesome Highland hero. He is laird of the Clan McPherson, after his father and brothers were butchered by Hope's father. He wanted justice for his clan, but he was not willing to use a vulnerable woman as his tool. Leonce was wonderful man, but he could also be hard headed and had a quick temper. He's my favorite kind of alpha male. He was a proud man, devoted father, but above all else, he was Hope's Lion.

The story was fast paced, exciting, and original. The original part is what earned Highland Treasure a place on coveted place on my five star wall. I love historical romances, but I often feel as if I am reading the same story over and over. This book was definitely a breath of fresh air.

Let's talk about all that hot Highland loving.

This book was smoking!!! The sex was hot, without being overly erotic. There was a lot of sex; even more, talk of sex. But, I never felt like the author was relying on sex to make story. It was just an added bonus.

No book is perfect, and Highland Treasure does have its flaws. Some of the dialogue was a bit over the top, and the games Leonce and Hope played seemed a tad childish. These things may turn some readers off, but I have to wonder if the book would have been as good without these "flaws"?

Would I recommend this book? Heck Yeah!

Love the characters and hated saying goodbye to them!

I loved this book. I loved the hero, the heroine, the animals, the magic, the friends, the humor, and most of all the endearingly sweet love story. It has everything you could want in a epic love story. Hope, the heroine was funny, sweet, and so special that I wanted to become her best friend. Leonce the hero was so protective and loving; he's everything a hero should be. The other characters worm their way into your heart with ease especially Bertie and Diablo (who is a horse BTW). I have this book on kindle and ordered it on paperback because I loved it so much. I couldn't stand to say goodbye to these characters! I've read this story over and over again along with her other two books. She is now counted among my most favorite historical authors which include the likes of Judith McNaught and Julie Garwood. There are some grammar and editing problems but they weren't really enough for me to care about. I'm telling you have to try read this book! Its my favorite out of all of them. I now have my sister hooked on this author and she has read all of her books as well. Her and I both CAN NOT WAIT for her next book. This story will be in my forever library and not many books make it there. ;) Thank you Mary for writing such a special story. If anyone hasn't tried this author, please do so...you will not regret it!!

Great read

I really enjoyed this book. The female character was strong and fiesty. The lead male character was fierce but not brutal. The other two books are also really good even if I read them out of order, lol. i just want to say one thing. Mary McCall needs to get on the ball. I'm a fan and am looking forward to another great book.

Great Book for Tool Designers

Having been in Manufacturing for over 28 years, I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Tool Design. I recently picked up this book for a Tool Design course at UCLA Ext and this is required reading for the course. Too bad I couldn't have picked up this book years ago. It has great fundamental information for any level.

Very Thorough and Concise in Tool Design Concepts

I needed this book for school and the teacher constantly referenced it, unlike in other classes where it's pretty much a "throwaway" book requirement. The teacher used this as his guide and he's been teaching Tool and Die for over 20 years, and has been in the business for over 35 years.

Complex, engrossing snapshot of India

I read everything I get my hands on about India, and found this book to be one of the best. A thought-provoking look at the shifting realities of an infinitely complex country (or idea of a country), it is both unsettling and transcendent. I won't reproduce a synopsis of the plot, but can contest to complete fascination with the mixture of violence, compassion, social commentary and a pure storytelling genius that kept me glued to my seat.

On a personal note, I almost ditched the book in the first few chapters, as I strongly disliked the protagonist. Stick with it - once you hit the stories of the assassins, you are hooked.

"The" Naked Lunch of Slum Dog Millionaire: This is India (and Pakistan, probably...and all of us, too) Tarun J. Tejpal

Current headlines (Nov-2012) echo the words of this wonderfully written book (or is it the other way around?):

"...controversial Hindu politician Narendra Modi" ...and "Thousands pay respect to Bal Thackeray".

The naked lunch of Slumdog Millionaire, The Story of My Assassins: A Novel, lets outsiders inside to see even more than the "dog" showed. This beautifully written book should be required reading for anyone in the sciencias sociales . Without pretension, it exposes the mostly brutal truth that we're all alike: timid and meek, ruthless and exploitative, racist and intolerant; and more importantly, driven by fear, greed, sex and religion. ("We have met the enemy and he is us" Pogo).

Now we can see we are brothers and sisters with Indians, Hindu and Muslim alike and probably Pakistanis and everyone else. They curse like we do; they treat others intolerantly as we do; best of all: they are just as brilliant as we are, not only at gaming the system. They rock. Tejpal paints a striking picture of India past and present under the changing forces of the enlightenment; It's a kaleidoscopic view of an analytic editor/publisher and his failing magazine, his modern, feminist girl friend and the family histories of 5 men of different background sent to kill him. The family histories are the real story; it's almost outside the ken of Norte Americanos to "get" the India painted, but it's so well written the scenes clearly explode in your head.

It may be a little too dark and cynical for some (Naked Lunch was) but reality isn't always pretty. Hopefully this deserving book gains the notoriety of Burroughs' old and too personal story; Assassins is much grander in scope and better written. It's coherent. It's not just meant to shock. This is a better story painting the world of India grandly with all its history of beauty and beast.

This reader was stunned by how the "Gita" was utilized throughout the book; in a way, it's a liberating look at the greatest Hindu spiritual passage, an enlightened Hindu's acknowledgment. An apt demonstration of how religion has been used forever to advance less than perfect causes and a proper causal reason for why we should stop it. Actually, it's a sharp rebuke, to quote a passage, by the main character's, feminist girlfriend: "She was dismembering the new liberal economics that was opening up India to the world, cursing the scourge of globalization, abusing patriarchal politics, demanding lower-caste mobilization, declaring the death of the idea of India at the hands of a surging Hindu right. In five years, by 2005, this would be a fascist state. She and I, and those like us, would be in hiding. Everything-- every freedom-- we took for granted would be gone. It would be worse than the colonial past, because this time we would have done it to ourselves." (Pogo anyone?)

Great read: thoughtful and insightful, funny, irreverent, spot on and beautifully written; Tejpal really can turn some strikingly clever phrases, a lot of them; adding a lot to the understanding of India, old and new. Must read.

"I contain multitudes"

I am becoming increasingly convinced that in terms of pure reader enthrallment modern Indian literature trumps that of all other contemporary societies. The complexity and unbridled energy of Indian life in the late 20th and early 21st centuries is unmatched, and those skillful enough to flawlessly render the maelstrom that is India into print are truly peerless.

In the past five or six years I have read numerous titles in the genre including among many others, "The White Tiger," "Inheritance of Loss," "Sacred Games" and "A Fine Balance." I must say, though, that "The Story of my Assassins" may be the best of the lot. Not only is Tejpal an excellent story teller, but he opens up the story continuously--in a few pages, paragraphs or even a few snippets-- introducing secondary, tertiary and sometimes even quarternary characters who are fleshed out so well that they are realized as fully as the novel's primary protagonists. And being a trained journalist, Tejpal rarely clutters things up with unnecessary verbiage.

I've only had one 3-week visit to India, a few years back, but with books like Tejpal's I feel I can continually dip my feet back in that wonderful subcontinental chaos.

A heartwarming, love spreading christmas story!!!

Its christmas at the Nefarious MC and with Darko the club Prez away its up to Black Dog the VP to ensure an amazing time for everyone, the kids, the poor and the elderly and the MC.
With everyone pulling together and working hard and baking goods they are gonna have a hell of a party!
A few problems crop up but thankfully they manage to pull through and give everyone involved a magical christmas to remember... There is also a surprise from Willie for Black Dog and Black Dog has a wonderful gift for Willie.
This book is an amazing christmas novella bringing the love of family and friends and lots of humour together for a magical time of year... Merry Christmas.

This was so funny I loved it the only bad thing I could say about it was it was not long enough. I wanted to keep reading. If you want a fast read that will make you smile and laugh and remember what Christmas is all about then this is for you

An MC Christmas story that captures the spirit and heart of the season.

I really enjoyed reading this one. It was a fun story with some seriousness to it showing how an MC will often step in and help out their community. I just loved the sense of family you take away from this book, shows strongly how family is not always blood. This author managed to capture the spirit and heart of Christmas, engaging your emotions, capturing your attention from the start and had me laughing out loud so many times with some of the antics of the characters in this one. It was great to catch back up with some previous characters and find out what has been happening with them. Made me anticipate her next full book in this series even more after reading this novella and hoping I get to see a lot more of some of these newer characters I got introduced to in this one.

If you are looking for an MC themed Christmas story, a fun and quick read, I would highly recommend one clicking this one. It was just an all around entertaining, and enjoyable, story. This one will positively leave you with the feel goods. This was by far the best MC Christmas story I've read.

We consider the classical elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic linear equations, but also the diffusion, transport, and Navier-Stokes equations, as well as equations representing conservation laws, saddle-point problems and optimal control problems. Furthermore, we provide numerous physical examples which underline such equations. We then analyze numerical solution methods based on finite elements, finite differences, finite volumes, spectral methods and domain decomposition methods, and reduced basis methods. 

In particular, we discuss the algorithmic and computer implementation aspects and provide a number of easy-to-use programs.

About the Author

The Author is Professor and Director of the Chair of Modelling and Scientific Computing (CMCS) at the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing of EPFL, Lausanne (Switzerland), since 1998, Professor of Numerical Analysis at the Politecnico di Milano (Italy) since 1989, and Scientific Director of MOX, since 2002. Author of 22 books published with Springer, and of about 200 papers published in refereed international Journals, Conference Proceedings and Magazines, Alfio Quarteroni is actually one of the strongest and reliable mathematicians in the world in the field of Modelling and SC.

An important theoretical reference to Galekin methods for PDEs

Written by one of the leading figures in the field of variational methods and numerical mathematics, this book is an invaluable reference for graduate students and researchers working in the field of Galerkin methods. It is written by a mathematician, with the formalism proper of a mathematician; it may thus appear somewhat cumbersome if the reader is seeking an applied insight of the finite element method. However, the inclined engineer/scientist/mathematician will find its formalism an important ingredient to deeply understand the theory behind the method, although built in a very understandable language.
The books covers different types of Galerkin schemes, with special attention to finite elements and spectral elements, and a bit on the finite volume and finite difference methods. It should be considered by those who are willing to make an intellectual effort to understanding the theory of finite elements, but should be avoided by those expecting a book that could help with their practical implementation --some implementation issues are introduced in the context of object-oriented programming, but it may not be enough for beginners. This is the translation of the original Italian edition: Modellistica Numerica per Problemi Differenziali.

About the Author
Tomas Co is a professor of chemical engineering at Michigan Technological University. After completing his PhD in chemical engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst he was a postdoctoral researcher at Lehigh University, a visiting researcher at Honeywell Corp., and a visiting professor at Korea University. He has been teaching applied mathematics to graduate and advanced undergraduate students at Michigan Tech for more than twenty years. His research areas include advanced process control including plant-wide control, nonlinear control and fuzzy logic. His journal publications span broad areas in such journals as IEEE Transactions in Automatic Control, Automatica, the AIChE Journal, Computers in Chemical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering Progress. He is a regular nominee for the Distinguished Teaching Awards at Michigan Tech and is a member of the Michigan Technological University Academy of Teaching Excellence.

The shelves of Elvisiana receive another notable addition in Elvis: The Ulitmate Album Cover Book, by Paul Dowling, who owns the world's largest Elvis record collection. In full color, the book reproduces 226 album covers from nearly 40 different countries, including not only the expected ones (American versions of the movie soundtrack platters, for instance) but also many rare limited or foreign editions, such as the 1965 Japanese edition of Jailhouse Rock, which presents on its garish cover an Elvis whose features, especially his hair, are given a decidedly Nipponese cast.

An Elvis fan extraordinaire, Dowling has all five Elvis Sun singles in the trademark sunburst sleeves (see p. 13). Heck, he has more than 7,000 Elvis records and is still seeking "items I don't have." This book showcases what his treasures come in. Besides LP record covers, plenty of single and extended play (EP) 45 sleeves appear, and all but the Sun wrappers are pictorial. They come from every land in which RCA made records, including Japan, Brazil, Israel, New Zealand, and even Cuba. Often several countries' versions of the same cover look strikingly different because of variations in color values or black-and-white contrast, and sometimes when a country uses distinctive artwork for a cover, it has a definitely national look--check out Elvis' hair on the Japanese Jailhouse Rock EP. Definitely NOT "Ultimate"

While it is a nice enough book, it should not be billed as "ultimate." There are indeed many album covers from around the world, but it only has a fraction of the US album covers. I expected it to have at least all of the covers up until his passing, but only about half of the albums are represented.

A must for any Elvis fan

This is a book of album covers. Some are typical of 1950's album covers and some are very Elvis. The most interesting ones are the few psychedelic covers and modern art covers from foreign countries (South America and Japan had some interesting ones). Worth it for artistic value.

The Schur complement plays an important role in matrix analysis, statistics, numerical analysis, and many other areas of mathematics and its applications. This book describes the Schur complement as a rich and basic tool in mathematical research and applications and discusses many significant results that illustrate its power and fertility. The eight chapters of the book cover themes and variations on the Schur complement, including its historical development, basic properties, eigenvalue and singular value inequalities, matrix inequalities in both finite and infinite dimensional settings, closure properties, and applications in statistics, probability, and numerical analysis. The chapters need not be read in order, and the reader should feel free to browse freely through topics of interest.

Although the book is primarily intended to serve as a research reference, it will also be useful for graduate and advanced undergraduate courses in mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics. The contributing authors’ exposition makes most of the material accessible to readers with a sound foundation in linear algebra.

The book, edited by Fuzhen Zhang, was written by several distinguished mathematicians: T. Ando (Hokkaido University, Japan), C. Uneven exposition levels but very good overall

A comprehensive exposition of the title subject. The historical introduction (Chapter 0) is a gem. Chapters are written by different contributors, but with a few exceptions the overall organization is coherent. One minor problem is the disparity of notations for matrix algebra used by contributors. Main missing topic: applications in high performance computing. Exhaustive bibliography.
